Pet-Friendly Hotels in Fortaleza: Beira-Mar, Iracema and Centro

For a beach trip to Fortaleza with a dog, book on Avenida Beira-Mar: the Praiano Hotel in Meireles and the Hotel Gran Marquise in Mucuripe both accept pets and sit on the seafront, and the Gran Marquise is a short walk from the Praça Pet Friendly, a dedicated dog space at Parque Bisão. Only five of the 30 Fortaleza stays I list say they take animals, and they average 8.88 out of 10 across 7,199 guest reviews. The other three are the Hotel da Villa at Praia de Iracema, the small Hotel Belem in Centro, which caps pets at 8 kg, and the ibis Styles in Messejana, which takes dogs only. This page is for couples and families bringing a dog to Ceará, and it covers the one health risk every dog owner here should know about.

Fortaleza is the capital of Ceará and a beach city that lives along Avenida Beira-Mar, the seafront avenue that runs from Praia de Iracema through Meireles to Mucuripe. Most visitors sleep on that strip, and that is also where dog owners walk in the cooler early morning and evening. The city's climate is shaped by the quadra chuvosa, the rainy season from February to May, which brings about three quarters of Ceará's annual rain according to Funceme. The rest of the year is dry, hot and windy, which suits a dog better than the wet months.

Where to stay

…

Which Fortaleza hotel suits you and your dog

Fortaleza's hotel stock is mostly seafront towers and rented flats along Meireles, Iracema and Mucuripe, and very few of them accept animals. Of the 30 stays I cover in the city, five do. They split clearly: two large seafront hotels on Avenida Beira-Mar, one family hotel at Praia de Iracema, a small city-centre hotel with a strict weight limit, and a chain hotel far from the beach in Messejana. Where you sleep decides whether your dog walks on the seafront every morning or spends the trip in a car.

The Praiano Hotel, at Avenida Beira Mar 2800 in Meireles, is where I would start. It faces Meireles beach, has an outdoor pool and a spa, and scores 9.0 from 3,381 reviews, by far the largest review base of the five. Its rules on the size and number of pets are not published anywhere I could find, and that is its one weakness: send your dog's weight and breed with the booking and keep the hotel's written reply. For a medium-sized dog and a seafront stay, it is the most proven choice in the city.

The Hotel Gran Marquise, at Avenida Beira Mar 3980 in Mucuripe, is the five-star option, with an outdoor pool, a spa, two restaurants and a poolside bar, rated 9.0 from 1,126 reviews. Pets are accepted on request, and charges may apply. Its real advantage for a dog owner is position: it is the closest hotel on this page to the Praça Pet Friendly at Parque Bisão, Avenida Beira-Mar 4364, a space reserved for animals with a tunnel, an A-ramp, a jump and a seesaw, opened in May 2023 by the city's tourism office and its animal welfare unit.

The Hotel da Villa, at Rua João Cordeiro 765 near Praia de Iracema, is the one I would pick for a family travelling with both children and a dog. It has sea-view rooms with balconies, a pool with a view, a separate kids' pool and an indoor play area, and it scores 8.4 from 2,209 reviews. Pets are welcome, but the hotel publishes no size or fee rules, so it suits a small, calm dog better than a large one. Praia de Iracema is also the western end of the seafront walk, so the promenade starts close by.

The Hotel Belem Fortaleza, at Rua Princesa Isabel 928 in Centro, is the small-dog address. It accepts pets up to 8 kg, so a beagle is already over the limit and a Labrador is out of the question. It scores 8.9 from 236 reviews and lies about 6 km from Pinto Martins airport, which makes it practical for a short stop with a cat or a toy breed, for example before a transfer up the coast. For a beach holiday, though, the two Beira-Mar hotels put you much closer to the sand every morning.

The ibis Styles Fortaleza Shopping Giga Mall, in Messejana, takes dogs only, for an extra fee, with service animals exempt. It scores 9.1 from 247 reviews, the best average of the five, but it is the wrong hotel for a seaside trip: Messejana is in the south-east of the city, far from the Beira-Mar beaches. The attached Giga Mall has also been renamed Giga Shopping and, according to the Fortaleza newspaper O Povo in July 2026, is converting to wholesale trade, so do not count on it for everyday shopping during your stay.

A traveler's take

I would book the Praiano for most dog owners: a seafront hotel with thousands of reviews and the Beira-Mar promenade at the door. With a dog that needs daily exercise, I would take the Gran Marquise for its walk to the Praça Pet Friendly. The Hotel da Villa is my choice for children plus a small dog. I would not book the ibis Styles for a beach trip, and I would skip the Hotel Belem with any dog over 8 kg. Whatever the hotel, I would not bring a dog to Fortaleza without a leishmaniasis collar.

Praiano Hotel

Fortaleza

Oceanfront comfort with a pool, spa, and easy beach access

Why guests love it

Praiano Hotel stands directly on Meireles Beach in Fortaleza, so the sand is the first thing families reach. There is an outdoor pool, a spa and wellness area, and a restaurant serving regional and international cooking, with a daily breakfast and room service around the clock. Children and pets are both welcome, and complimentary WiFi is included. I would call it a lively, full-facility base rather than a quiet retreat.

Why guests love it

Hotel da Villa is one of the more child-focused hotels in Fortaleza: alongside the main swimming pool there is a kids' pool and an indoor play area for rainy or very hot afternoons. Family rooms have sea views and balconies, with air conditioning, a minibar and free Wi-Fi. The restaurant and bar keep meals easy, and the sun terrace gives parents somewhere to relax. Iracema Beach is close by. An 8.4 score from over 2,200 reviews is reassuring.

Local tips

  1. 1Talk to your vet about a deltamethrin collar before travelling: visceral leishmaniasis is endemic in Fortaleza, and the city health department's 2024 to 2026 action plan includes mass collaring of dogs against the sandfly that spreads it.
  2. 2The deltamethrin collar works as a repellent and is changed every six months under the Brazilian health ministry's guidance, so fit it before departure rather than buying one on arrival.
  3. 3Use the Praça Pet Friendly at Parque Bisão, Avenida Beira-Mar 4364 in Mucuripe, for exercise: it has a tunnel, an A-ramp, a jump and a seesaw, a few minutes' walk east of the Gran Marquise.
  4. 4Avoid the February to May rainy season if you can. Fortaleza recorded almost 500 mm of rain in February 2024, its wettest February since 1973, and flooded streets make dog walks miserable.
  5. 5Weigh your pet before booking the Hotel Belem: its limit is 8 kg per animal, which rules out most medium-sized breeds.
  6. 6The ibis Styles in Messejana accepts dogs only. Travelling with a cat, choose another hotel on this page, and keep in mind that Messejana is far from the Beira-Mar seafront.
  7. 7Walk dogs early on Avenida Beira-Mar. Outside the rainy season the sun is strong from late morning and the seafront pavement heats up quickly, so the first hour after sunrise and the hour after sunset are the times for long walks.
  8. 8Send your dog's weight and breed in writing when booking the Praiano, Gran Marquise or Hotel da Villa: none of the three publishes a size limit, and the written reply is your proof at check-in.
