Hotel Westphal
A budget hotel steps from Pelotas Catholic University
Pelotas, Pelotas
About this stay
Hotel Westphal keeps things simple: rooms with satellite TV, a fan, a desk and a private bathroom, without the extras that push up the rate at nearby properties. Its location does the heavy lifting, 600 metres from Pelotas Catholic University, 700 metres from Pelotas Federal University and 500 metres from Beneficência Portuguesa Hospital, which makes it a practical base for anyone visiting the university district. Ironing service and laundry facilities are on site, and the hotel offers free parking and facilities for disabled guests. With 2,226 reviews, it is one of the most reviewed properties in this list, and couples rate the location 8.5 for a two-person trip. The simple, functional rooms keep costs down without sacrificing the essentials, and the location advantage becomes clearest for anyone with appointments or classes to reach on foot rather than by taxi across the city.

Our take
I recommend Hotel Westphal for practical visits to Pelotas's university district: it is 600 metres from the Catholic University, 700 metres from the Federal University and 500 metres from Beneficência Portuguesa Hospital. Rooms are simple, with a fan, satellite TV and a private bathroom, and parking is free. The 8.5 from 2,226 reviews is solid, but leisure travellers will want more.

- ✓Check in early since the hotel is popular and well reviewed
Why we love it
- A genuinely central location for the university district
- Laundry and ironing facilities on site
- Free parking included
- Facilities for disabled guests
Why guests love itGuests visiting Pelotas for university or hospital business tend to choose Hotel Westphal specifically for the walk to UCPEL, UFPel or Beneficência Portuguesa, a location advantage that larger hotels further out cannot match. The rooms stay simple, but the laundry facilities and free parking cover the practical needs of a longer academic or medical visit without adding hotel-level cost. The rate stays low enough that the simple room finishes feel like a fair trade.
