Our take
I would choose Hotel Sambaquis for a family stay in São Luís if you have a car: the hotel is 12 km from the historic centre, so the trip into town is a ride, not a walk. In return there is a pool, spa and wellness facilities, free parking, a daily buffet breakfast and a 24-hour reception. Rooms have air conditioning and satellite TV. An 8.2 rating from 705 reviews is solid. If seeing the old centre on foot is the plan, I would book closer to it.
